Bruce Killen discovered his
artistic gift when he began carving wooden decoys as a hobby. He used a borrowed book for
reference and a jackknife and file as his only tools. As the popularity of his creations
grew, he began to work with porcelain and bronze, creating spectacular wildlife sculptures
that reached a larger audience.Bruce Killen does not fit the mold of the solitary artist in his
studio. He is an ardent outdoorsman and conservationist, his sculptures are inspired by
the wildlife that abounds outside his cabin on the legendary Klamath Marsh. There he can
observe the power and beauty of nature which he recreates in his art. His love of
waterfowl finds eloquent expression in his work; and his wood, porcelain, and bronze
sculptures are widely displayed and collected by wildlife enthusiasts.
Through technique, the Artist
strives to establish a unique feeling that is evident in his award-winning art. A feeling
that even this website can not convey. To the Artist, the acceptance of his work is the
highest honor that can be bestowed on him. Among his numerous honors are over a dozen
"Best of Show" designations from National Wildlife Shows, including four Gold
Medals, and more than 100 juried awards.
When he's not at his cabin or
working at his hilltop studio, Bruce can be found riding one of his antique motorcycles
along the winding country roads near his home, or spending time with his wife, children,
and grandchildren. |
